$17.99 for some lip balm???

Yes, $17.99 for some lip balm.  Shut up.  It’s comparable with M.A.C. and Bobbi Brown and I don’t see you yelling at the folks in Nordstrom’s buying that!  And this lip balm is not just lip balm but kissing balm.  (Oh.  Remember kissing potion from Bonnie Bell I think it was?  Gloopy gloss in a roll on tube with a startlingly sweet candy smell?  Ugh.  Someone save me from my 80s memories, please!)

Ahem.  Sorry.  Tangent.

Back on track, let’s talk about Sensuous Beauty’s Kissing Balm.  I got the Honey Orange flavor but it also comes in Honey Rose.  Contrary to some other reviews I’ve read, it does not taste or smell like citrus or oranges.  It smells like sweet orange blossoms.  This isn’t intended to be a Lip Smacker.   It’s a sensual, natural, organic treat for your lips that is completely grown up.

Kissing Balm comes in a short, squat, .5 ounce glass tub.  (Reminds me a lot of Body Shop lip balm tubs)  The tub has a twist off cover and a very normal looking label.  There is nothing on the jar that would suggest it was purchased at an adult store unless the very word sensuous bothers you and makes you feel all dirty.  Which, yanno, if it does, means you should buy your lip balm elsewhere and leave us non dirty sensuous folks alone. :P

The label reads  ”Kissing Balm moisturizes and gives you sweet lips that taste like fresh flowers”.  And, indeed, it does.  It contains, in order of predominance: sweet almond oil, honey, beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, vegetable glycerine, vitamin E, pure neroli (orange blossom) essential oil and carrot oil.  If you’re expecting orange sherbet or candy, this is not the balm for you. But if you remember sucking on the back of a honeysuckle blossom or have eaten rose petals or nasturtium in your salad…  you’ll know what sort of sweet, flowery flavor and scent this has.

I know hearing a scent is floral may make some shudder and think perfume-y.  It’s not like that.  It’s just…  sweet and flowery.  It’s nice.  I wouldn’t want to eat it for dinner but it tastes light and wonderful and just slightly honeyed.

The addition of coconut oils and beeswax to this balm keep it mostly solid at room temperature, yet it’s a soft solid, very easy to dip your finger into and get a bit to apply to your lips.  (The amount on my finger there is way too much!) Upon hitting your lips, it easily rubs in, leaving them moisturized with a slight shine but no waxy, thick or gloopy feeling.  The balm lasts about an hour if you don’t lick or rub at your lips.

It’s a nice balm, much nicer than drug store fare and has really made my lips feel softer and smoother, which is super nice in this winter cold and dry weather.  I’m not sure how well it will do in summer as it has no sunscreens but…

Still, it is nice.

Does it make me more kissable?  If your partner likes a lightly sweet, slightly moist and soft looking pucker, then certainly!  And if not? It feels good and that’s what really sells me on it.

You could certainly, given it’s ingredients, use this as a massage balm or even external lube but at the price, for such a small amount, I’d say leave this for your lips and pick up some Love Balm for your massage needs.
