Fun with Shunga

Fun with Shunga

6.15 016I’ve been on a “sensual product” kick lately.  Oils and bath gels and candles and powders, slippery, sudsy, sweet smelling stuff that makes baths – and lovin’ – a lot of fun.

I used to think all this stuff was sort of corny, you know?  Great for a honeymoon or anniversary for a vanilla friend but not something we’d actually use.

Wrong!

Turns out Taylor really enjoys some pampering with his bath and I really enjoy the quid pro quo that comes from pampering him.

So.  I ordered a bunch of stuff from EdenFantasys for a wedding gift for friends of ours (Cuz that’s the way I roll, damn it.  Sex products for everyone! And, ya know, they’ve been together seven years and have seven kids between them.  It’s not like they needed towels or a blender.)  And then I added some stuff for us to the order.  Save on shipping, right?

I went with Shunga products cuz I knew I wanted a massage candle and I also wanted other products that matched it’s scent.  And they’ve gotten all around decent reviews so I figured it was a safe bet.

What I ended up getting was a massage candle, some bath gel that is edible (or at least doesn’t taste like dial) and some sweet snow, all in the exotic fruit scent.

The rest is behind the cut cuz this is gonna get long…

Let’s start with the shower gel.

When I read this vegetable oil based gel soothes and moisturizes. And if you opt for wet sex don’t resist kissing and licking as this gel is edible without aftertaste I was pretty much sold.  I have a love for vegetable based and natural soaps to begin with but most of them still taste a bit funky.  And, seriously, there is not a whole lot that is worse than having a sexy, erotic shower with someone only to lean in and kiss a soapy, wet, slick shoulder – or other things – and come away with a nasty, chemical, Irish Spring flavored tongue.  So I was excited and cautiously optimistic about the Shunga shower gel.

The ingredients were simple and mostly natural; a bunch of good for you oils with some sodium laurel whatsit, artificial aroma and glycerin.  The bottle is a large, 16 oz of reddish liquid that smells amazingly like Juicy Fruit gum. (Not exactly exotic but I love sweet smells so it’s all good)  It’s a plastic bottle with a press top cap and the typical and gorgeous Shunga exotic artwork on the front. Not exactly discreet but I’m a lot less concerned about folks peeking in my tub and seeing some sexy soap than I am about, say, world hunger.

The bath gel lathers like a dream, lasts a good long time, leaves the skin soft and silky and even works halfway decent for shaving – something most soaps don’t do for me.

The real test came, however, in tasting it.  Results?  Do not drink the gel from the bottle.  And it’s probably best not to slurp up an entire mouthful of bubbles.  It’s going to taste a little soapy.  But for the occasional kiss of a soaped up body part, neck nuzzling whilst in the shower or a little oral fun in the water after having washed with this, it’s fine.  It doesn’t taste “good” but it’s not icky, either.

Definitely worth the $14.99.  It’s as good a soap as bath and body works products with a luxurious lather and a scent that lingers pleasantly on your skin and in the steamy air after your bath or shower.

Next it’s the massage candle.  Packaged in a gorgeous black tin with the sexy Shunga art in shades of cream, gold and red, the candle also smells remarkably like Juicy Fruit gum.  To me, it’s yummy, fruity and sweet.  Others may find it a bit too sweet.

The Exotic Fruits candle is an off white color and comes with a tiny spoon for dipping into the wax and applying it to the body.  Like most massage candles, you trim the wick, light it, let it burn for a half an hour or so (just enough time to take a bath and it really enhances the experience if you take the candle in the bathroom with you for the romantic lighting and sensory delight of it’s additional scent along with the shower gel) and then blow it out and use the spoon – or tip the tin lightly -  to apply some of the melted wax to whatever body part you want to massage.

Unlike regular wax candles, massage candles burn at a lower temperature and the wax is more oily than waxy.  It hits the skin with an amazing warmth that adds a depth to massage you don’t get with room temperature oils and lotions.

The Shunga candle contains nothing but natural oils, fragrance and vitamin E – though they are a bit more waxy and thick than the Jimmyjane candle I’ve also tried.  They have no real taste to speak of; neither pleasant nor unpleasant.  The oil/wax spreads easily and makes for a sweet smelling, slick massage without leaving you super oily.  Any residue left over that may be too much or too thick showers off without issue and does not stain the sheets or your clothes if you choose not to wash it off.

The Shunga candle will fill a room with it’s scent so, even if you don’t use it for massage, it’s a quality scented candle that burns evenly and fairly slowly.

At $18.99 it’s a decent price for a decent massage candle though, again, the Jimmyjane Afterglow candles are greatly superior and only a bit more costly.

6.15 013 Last but certainly not least is the Sweet Snow, again in Exotic Fruit aka Juicy Fruit scent.

The Sweet Snow is packaged amazingly.  It’s initially in a beautiful, cylindrical cardboard “tin” decorated with the exotic, Japanese styled Shunga artwork; again in shades of black, gold, cream and red.  Inside the tin you find a sealed plastic bag of the “snow” as well as a black, satin drawstring bag to keep it in and a beautiful, real feather applicator.

Transferring the powder from plastic bag to drawstring bag had me wearing a good bit of it and isn’t the easiest maneuver but I’m sort of clumsy that way – and once you get it in there it holds the powder quite well.  It poufs a little from the top if you’re not gentle with the bag but not enough to make it bothersome.

The powder itself is mostly starch and corn starch with some flavor and scent added.  Totally edible and safe and free of talc.

6.15 018 The feather applicator is soft and luxurious and applies just the smallest bit of the powder – which is good, as too much in one area tastes chalky.  You want to use this stuff in moderation, tickling and teasing with the feathers, leaving behind a dusting of snow you can lick and kiss away without having a mouthful of the stuff.

I used all three products together and had no issues with stickiness or clumping but, again, all things in moderation.  If you really lay the stuff – be it massage wax or snow – on thick, it’s going to be thick and messy.  Use a gentle hand and it’s oodles of sensual fun.

The Sweet Snow has a less strong Juicy Fruit gum smell, lingers on the body for a couple hours and tastes lightly sweet with no nasty aftertaste.  At 22.99 it’s a good deal as you get 8 oz and use very little per session.

Shunga does make gift packages with all sorts of different erotic, sensual products in them but, as of yet, I haven’t seen any with a massage candle – and since that was what I really, really wanted, I chose to buy each item separately.  Everything is a good value for what you get, probably more so than buying the tiny sized gift packages but regardless of how you buy Shunga products, all of them are good quality and a pleasure to use.

And, ya know, vanilla as it all may be Taylor and I have a lot of fun with this stuff.  Pampering him is fun, it gives us “us” time that is nice and relaxing and full of closeness and it never fails that, once I start to rub and tickle on him, he feels the need to rub and tickle on me.  It makes for amazing extended foreplay and reminds us that it’s totally okay – and fun! – to be soft with each other.  And to laugh.  And tease.  And gobble each other up.

Get any of these sensual products, as well as crazy vibrators, giant didlos, light BDSM gear and a gazillion other sex toys over at EdenFantasys.  They rock.

Great review! I was very happy to read this:

“It makes for amazing extended foreplay and reminds us that it’s totally okay – and fun! – to be soft with each other.”

There’s so much polarization between kinksters/BDSMers and vanilla folk that I sometimes wonder if the kinksters/BDSMers can just play & be soft with each other & not question their dedication to the kinky. I think you can have both hard & soft and this just affirmed my belief. :-)

      :)

We have light, soft, laughing time quite frequently. It usually amazes people when they see it; I guess Taylor comes off as always being a hardass dick and I come off as not liking the soft stuff but…

I do. He does. And, yanno, we live a real life, not a BDSM fantasy. That means we do normal stuff, too.

Anyone that says they don’t is either lying or has WAY more focus than I do. Lol.

lol And that is one of many reasons why I enjoy reading you and kaya–you both live real lives & not some BDSM fantasy. I like seeing all the different sides to people and their relationships.

I agree that your reality makes for a good read buuuuut.. I would’ve split up your reviews. I’m just trying to rush out of the house is all. LOL

I’m glad you enjoyed everything, though. The fact that you have to transfer the snow is a bit off to me. I would’ve just plopped the plastic bag into the other one. Or they could’ve put it in a plasitc lined satin bag? Maybe I’m just lazy d=

PS, commentluv doesn’t seem to be working.
