Cowabunga, Dude
The Whipspider Wave. Man, this has been a difficult review for me to get motivated to write. It’s one of the coolest looking dildos I’ve ever seen and, like everything from Whipspider, amazingly well crafted.
But…
Isn’t there always a but?
I find I don’t use it very often, find I like its appearance more than I like it in application.
Let’s start with the basics. The Wave is shaped, well, like a wave. It’s hand made of the finest silicone in a swirly, pearly blue color, with very water-like whorls of slightly darker and slightly lighter blue that give it depth and a very animated look. You almost expect the silicone to move under your fingers like water.
The silicone is firm yet bendable; I can bend it in half so the tip touches the base or straighten the tip completely but neither can be done easily so you get plenty of pressure in use, no flop at all. The curved tip has an extreme curve to it and is tapered for easy insertion. It’s almost impossible to miss your g-spot with this toy and no matter how you thrust or rock it, you manage to easily massage and rub that amazingly angled tip against your g-spot. The tip diameter is 1.25″ but the Wave does swell as you go down the shaft so while it’s easy to insert, you also get a very pleasant and gradual stretch at the vaginal opening as you use this.
It’s a neat sensation, that excellent g-spot stimulation and the expanding shaft opening you as you thrust.
The Wave is a manageable toy when it comes to length. Really, you can insert as much or as little as you like though specs state the insertable length is 5.5″ with an overall length of 6.5″. Inserting the whole 5.5″ is a bit difficult as it widens to a very girthy 7.5″ circumference at the bottom and the extra inch isn’t really enough to firmly grasp and thrust with. I find I insert about the first 4″, leaving me more to grip as I thrust. I’m not aiming for my cervix, for deep penetration with this, simply to massage my g-spot.
The base, though broad, is the biggest issue the wave has. It’s not tapered for harness use at all and it can feel a bit bulky and difficult to hang on to, especially since the silicone is glossy and smooth and gets quite slick with lubrication. (Water based only, please!)
My Wave has a hole for a bullet in the base thought the one Eden Fantasys sells does not. (It has, instead, a black plug with the Whipspider logo on it as well as a black, arcing label with the text Whipspider Rubberworks) The hole in my Wave is quite deep. I can insert my entire index finger into it. Because of this, the small silver bullets you usually use in this sort of toy really sink in and I suggest using one with a retrieval cord or a corded bullet. The silicone is very dense, though, so vibrations travel lightly thru the toy, adding stimulation but not turning it into some sort of power vibe. It’s a nice bonus but not going to be enough if you need a very powerful vibrator. It’s truly best used as just a dildo.
The Wave can be cleaned with soap and warm water or sanitized by boiling for a few minutes or using a mild bleach solution. It should be fairly anal safe as the base is quite wide but I would use caution in this application – definitely don’t try to use it as a plug or sit on it. It could get swallowed…
In total honesty, the Wave is gorgeous and very effective. It’s amazing to look at, amazing to touch, amazing in use. But the awkward base is difficult for me to grip and so I find I don’t use it as often as I would if using it were a bit easier.
Absolutely a nice addition to anyone’s sex toy collection, though. It’s like a g-spotting sculpture, it really is.
