Daily Dose of Happiness

“Learning to live in the present moment is part of the path of joy.”
~ Sarah Ban Breathnach

I read this quote today and it made me realize…

How often do you hear people say:

  • When I was younger…
  • Oh, I remember the time…
  • God, those were the days…
  • We had so much fun then…
  • I was so happy when…
  • Nothing has been the same since…

And other such things that indicate they had a better life in their past?
Or how about:

  • It would all be okay if…
  • I’ll be happy when…
  • If only I had…
  • Eventually I’ll be able to…
  • I’m looking forward to next year…
  • I’m going to do this and that and…
  • I want…
  • I wish…

And other such things that indicate they’d be happy if the future could only be a certain way?

We all do it. And sometimes things do go all wrong and yesterday or tomorrow might be better than today. But, for the most part, I’ve simply come to the conclusion that a whole lot of people are just never happy. Yesterday wasn’t really any different and tomorrow isn’t going to miraculously bring you utopia. You just put a little haze of distance on the past and the future and continue to bitch about today.

Christ sakes, people….
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow may not come for you. So how about taking what you’ve been given today and being happy with it? It just might be all you’ve got.
