Frank McCourt

February 27th, 2006 | by Carrie Ann
I just finished re-reading Frank McCourt’s “Angela’s Ashes” and “Tis” and I just purchased the third in his Trilogy, “Teacher Man” – and I felt the need to let everyone know just how good his books are.
The memoirs of an extremely poor Irish immigrant told in three parts – The first from a child and young man’s perspective, the next two from an adult one – these books are, literally and without exaggeration, a joy to read. His thoughts are simple yet deep at the same time, his life experiences horrifying to those of us raised in suburban, American comfort. A truly wonderful glimpse at the type of life our history teachers would have liked us to understand. Or maybe the type of stuff they SHOULD have had us reading, so that we DID understand, instead of boring text books.

Pick them up. Give them a read. They are phenominal
