God Egg Stew
*one box elbow macaroni
*two pounds ground beef
*two cans whole canned tomatoes
*one can tomato sauce
Cook noodles. Brown beef. Season beef as you brown it with whatever you like but season it heavily so it has flavor. Dump tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, cooked and drained noodles and cooked ground beef into a bowl. Mix.
Taste.
Mmm, delicious and cheap.
The first time Taylor asked me to make this I was horrified. It sounded so… ok, nasty. But it’s good, it really is. And it’s comfort food for him, stuff his mom used to make when he was growing up. And the story of it’s name makes me laugh every time I make it.
Upon serving it to a friend of the family back in, oh, 1979, the friend took one look at it and said to Taylor’s mom…
“What the hell are THOSE things? God eggs?”
I guess he’d never seen whole canned tomatoes before.
This is has been your meaningless post of the day, brought to you by the woman in the corner, scarfing down the last of the god egg from the weekend.
Ciao!

Yum! Nothing like good eats!

In my house we call this goulash. The beef is seasoned with worchestershire, hot sauce, garlic powder and onion when we make it. It’s the cheap, filling laziness of ti that makes it so good I think.

My ex had a similar comfort food recipe, only instead of tomato sauce or chunky tomatoes, it was tomato juice. Ground beef, macaroni and tomato juice. It had to made a day ahead and left to sit in the fridge overnight, then reheated with a glob of butter.
Strangely enough, I remember it being pretty damn good, too.
