Gods in the Garden

I think that if ever a mortal heard the voice of God it would be in a garden at the cool of the day. ~F. Frankfort Moore, A Garden of Peace

Now we all know I don’t believe in the traditional version of god but…
I have to admit I find my garden – and gardening in general – to be very, very spiritual.
I’ve no doubt one finds whatever god(s) they believe in a bit more easily whilst in the garden.

Mine is going well. Particularly for early June in Wisconsin.
I have dianthus and roses in bloom. Impatiens and zinnia, mums and dahlia, vinca, viola and begonia too.
I have marigolds and morning glory, narsturtium and scarlett runners, sweet pea, poppy and hollyhock all shooting up like crazy.
I have lime basil, cinnamon basil, lemon basil and regular basil. Marjoram, thyme, tarragon, parsely, oregano, catnip, spearmint, peppermint, cilantro and sage.
There are pepper seedlings and cucumbers getting big. Peas and beans and tomatoes galore. Radishes I’ve already eaten! Kohlarabi doin’ it’s thing.

And every day I find something to dig in, some weeds to pull, some sprig to transplant, another reason to get my fingers in the dirt and feel as close as I can to Mother Earth.

Life…
is so good.
Even if I haven’t seen fairies yet. :)

The best place to seek God is in a garden. You can dig for him there. ~George Bernard Shaw, The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God, 1932
