ID Sampler

Lube freak?  Me?  Huh?  No way!

*blink*

Okay, so maybe I am.  I can’t help it.  I have lube in every room of my house just in case Taylor takes a notion to bend me over something.  It totally ruins the caveman spontaneity if I have to say, “Hold on, Honey, let me run and get some lube!” yanno?

And so I keep lube tucked into my desk drawers and in the bathroom and on a shelf in the kitchen and in all my toy bags and on his desk and all over the bedroom and…

You see why sample bottles are my friend?  Plus they’re cute.  Cute is a definite bonus, as far as I’m concerned.

But back to the lube.  This time, I got to try a sample pack of ID lubes – some of which I’d already tried, some of which I hadn’t.  Some I like, some I love, some I hate.  All but the cherry lube came in squared off, one ounce bottles with a flip up lid.

ID Millennium is one of my favorites.  To be honest, I’ve only tried a few silicone lubes I haven’t liked and most silicone lubes have the exact same basic ingredients, just in differing orders of quantity.

Like most, Millennium contains Cyclomethicone, Dimethiconol Silicone, Dimethicone and, like a few others, has vitamin e added.  I don’t know that I notice a difference in lubes with vitamin e but, really, it can’t hurt and it’s good for the skin so I welcome it with fairly open arms.

Again, like most silicone based lubes, Millennium is quite thin; thin to the point of being runny if you try to apply it directly to a penis, toy or even the vulva.  It tends to immediately drip down unlike gel like water based lubes that stay in place better.  Honestly, though, I don’t really mind.  I tend to use silicone lubes for either hand jobs or penetrative sex with a partner so I usually just squirt a pool into my hand, rub my hands together and apply to his penis, wiping the left over over my own bits.  I use silicone hair products so the slightly oily feeling on my hands doesn’t bother me in the least and it sinks in fairly quickly.

Millennium lasts a good, long time — I’ve never, ever had to reapply it for anything but a hand job — and even works well for me for anal sex.  It has no taste, no smell and has not stained our sheets.  It’s also great in water, holding up well for shower sex.

Wash off with a damp cloth and you’re good to go, with skin that feels blessedly soft as a result of using it.

ID glide is a standard water based lube and performs about averagely.  It does contain glycerin for those of you who may be sensitive but it’s never given me any grief.

It’s a typical water based lube of medium consistency; neither thick nor thin.  It stays in place fairly well, is relatively gel like and melts into a much more liquidy consistency when you spread it around.  I like ID glide more for sex toy use than for PIV or anal sex, especially silicone toys.  I’m not fond of it for handjob because it dries up too quickly, forcing me to apply more, which then makes  it kind of flaky.  When used for vaginal toy use, however, it mixes well with the natural lubricants of the vagina and lasts as long as I do most times.

It has a slightly sweet taste to it due to the glycerin, is non staining, odor free for the most part and is a good all around lube.  Not my favorite but handy to have around and liked by most.

ID sensation is another water based lube but this one has an ingredients list that reads rather like an energy drink.  Seriously.  It contains caffeine, niacin, guarana and taurine, along with menthol, glycerin and saccharin (for sweetness) and flavor.  I think it tastes like crap so I wouldn’t recommend using it for oral sex but it does feel pretty good.  It’s probably the only warming lube I’ve tried that really feels like it’s warming a bit rather than just tingling.

Like the ID glide, ID sensation is moderately thick, lasts a moderately long time and is non staining.  It does have a slightly minty scent and a mentholy, kind of bitter taste.  It applies easily, stays where you put it fairly well and thins out to a nice, slick consistency when rubbed in.

It does get a bit tacky and flaky after extended use but it cleans up easily with a warm wet cloth.

Juicy Lube (in cherry flavor) is crap.  It comes in a little tube, which is cute, and it works as well as the other water based ones as a lube but it tastes like cherry cough medicine and smells almost as bad.

I DO like Juicy Lube and have tried it in other flavors but the cherry sucks ass.

ID pleasure is another water based lube with ingredients added that are supposed to enhance sensation.  It does have glycerin as well as parabens and also contains ginko biloba and red clover.

Again, it’s a moderately thick, moderately long lasting lube that works well but didn’t provide any extra sensation that I could notice.  Nonstaining, slightly bitter to the taste, slightly medicinal in scent it washes off easily and does the job.  It’s  not the best lube, not the worst.  I prefer the Glide over the Pleasure, however.

All in all, most of the lubes in this pack are pretty similar and perform decently.  Nothing wrong with keeping a stock of decent, solidly performing lube around the house.  I, by far, prefer the Millennium but I prefer silicone lubes in general, so that’s to be expected.

The ID sampler is a really great way to have travel sized bottles of different lubes or to try many different kinds for a reasonable price.

Man, I wish they’d replace the cherry Juicy Lube with another flavor; the strawberry kiwi, passion fruit, pina colada and watermelon are all quite good and the cherry is awful. :(

Mad thanks to the good folks at Adam&Eve for letting me try this!
