Itchy Owie

Not sure what the hell happened but I just spent the past two days with a major case of hives.

They started Friday night on my back.  By Saturday morning my poor butt was covered in them. I spent nearly all day Saturday and Sunday in bed, dosed up on Benadryl.  They spread to my legs, my arms…

Thank god not my face or head or eyes or my snooch or anything.

It was the weirdest thing because I didn’t change medications or eat anything different so I have NO idea what caused them.  After about 12 doses of Benadryl, seventy two applications of itch cream, an oatmeal bath and two and a half miserable days I woke up this morning and they were gone.

Odd, eh?

As I’m sure you can imagine it was a sex free weekend.  Splotchy women, mindlessly clawing at their skin and wailing aren’t exactly…  attractive.

Meh.

It is definitely a test of one’s submission, however, when one is itching and crying and going insane and they still manage to keep up with the “service” stuff.

I almost considered drowning him when he asked me to run him a bath.  And I almost threw the glass at him when he asked for some more juice.  And I almost stabbed him with a fork when he said he was hungry for the forty fourth time yesterday.

But I didn’t.

    Testing. Testing, testing, testing

    Thankfully, almost doesn’t count! ;)

Hives come as a part of thyroid problems unfortunately; I know plenty (myself included – I feel your pain here) who get hives when thyroid antibodies are being made. (http://thyroid.about.com/b/2004/07/19/hives-linked-to-autoimmune-thyroid-disease.htm) It comes and goes, just as you described. Some folks get it for one day, some for a couple as you described.. some get them for months if they have a high antibody count. I’m glad it was short-lived for you.

All I’ve ever heard that we can do about the hives is load up on allergy meds like zyrtec or benadryl. Sudocrem is also a great topical help, it’s made for diaper rashes and acne, but really it’s just an antiseptic cream that helps dry out the skin and keeps the area clean for healing.

(Comments seem to be working beautifully!)

Hmmph. That just sucks. A lot. My thyroid antibodies are (or were, at last test a month ago) in the ten thousands.

I wonder if that means my dosage is off?

*Jots a note to ask the doctor*

    Thanks, Willo!
