LELO Billy
I don’t have a prostate and my guy isn’t fond of anal insertion so I waited a long time to get the Billy. After all, it’s pretty much the Liv with a small flare to make it anal safe and I already have a both a Liv and a Bob, which is the non vibrating anal toy LELO produces. It was hard to tell myself I had to have the Billy, too. I eventually caved, however, after reading Sammi’s review. She made it sound too appealing to resist and I DO love the Liv, could easily imagine how great it would feel anally if only it were safe…
And, you know, there IS that LELO addiction that needs regular feeding.
So let’s hit the basics.
The Billy is designed to be a male prostate toy but it works just as well for those of us without one. It has a lovely, mild curve to it that does a good job of hitting the g-spot thru the rectal-vaginal wall and puts out moderate vibrations that transmit very well thru the silicone covered plastic shaft.
The Billy is 6.5″ long with an insertable length of 4″. It’s not going to feel either hugely girthy or long for those who like to be filled up. It’s slim, just over an inch in diameter, and is meant to be a thrusting toy, a toy that rubs your g or p spot as you lightly thrust, not a filling plug.
As mentioned, the Billy is crafted from ABS plastic and silicone. The handle is white plastic with a four way control pad, the shaft is plastic coated with velvety silicone and is firm, unbendable but has a feel to it that is as soft to the touch as the softest babies butt ever. It does have a slight seam which runs up and down the front and back of the shaft but it can barely be felt with the fingers and is not at all noticed when inserted.
Unlike most of the sex toys LELO makes geared toward female bodied users, the Billy does not have a metal band around the area where the shaft meets the plastic handle. Instead, it goes directly from the small flare built into the shaft to maintain anal safety to the plastic. There is a slight seam here, as well, though it isn’t felt since you don’t insert it this far. It is necessary to take care when cleaning this area, though. You don’t want to get a bunch of water into the plastic base yet it can tend to collect a little lube.
The entire toy can be cleaned using a soap washcloth (then a non soapy one, to rinse) or a toy wipe, spray toy cleaner or 10% bleach solution. It can also be wiped down with rubbing alcohol or an alcohol wipe. I tend to use my fingernail thru whatever I’m cleaing with to make sure I’ve gotten into the little crease well. I never use running water, though you can, so long as you are careful. The Billy is not waterproof or even water resistant and you must protect the control pad and charging port since getting them wet and ruining the toy isn’t covered by your one year warranty. (LELO warranties all toys for one year for manufacturers defects as well as gives a 10 year quality guarantee that allows you to purchase a new one at a discount if you break yours within the first ten years.)
Use only water based lube to ensure absolute safety – though I will admit I have used silicone and oil based with no ill effects other than it being harder to wash off. Silicone lube can adversely effect silicone toys, though, so use this at your own risk!
The Billy is rechargeable and has a silicone covered charging port at the very base of it’s handle. Simply plug it in – the backlit buttons will blink while it’s charging and burn steadily when it is complete – for a few hours and you then get up to 4 hours of play time, depending on the vibrational intensity you use. When it needs to be recharged, the backlit buttons will glow red instead of white.
The buttons are easy to use, rather like a video game. There is a plus and a minus symbol on the right and left, up and down arrows on the top and bottom. To turn the Billy on you press the plus button, continued presses will ramp it up to it’s top speed. Billy has multiple levels of vibration – 12 at my count, going backwards from highest to off – that start at the slightest rumble and end at a moderate to high intensity buzz.
The Billy is a mid frequency vibrator – not super buzzy but not rumbly in pitch, either. A nice middle ground. It is fairly quiet and is unlikely to be heard thru a closed door, though you can hear it from under the covers.
Pressing the up arrow will start vibrational patterns, of which there are four; a slow, medium and rapid pulsing as well as an escalating pattern. Simple, yet effective. Pressing the down arrow takes you thru them in reverse and then back to steady vibrations.Pressing the minus buttons lowers the intensity/speed of the vibrations no matter which setting you’re on and also turns the Billy off.
Pressing and holding the entire button with your thumb for a few seconds locks the Billy – so it is very safe for travel or storage. There is no turning this baby on unintentionally once it’s locked.
Packaging, like all LELO toys, is a color coordinated outer cardboard box with an image of the toy, a black, heavy cardboard inner box that is nice for storage or gifting, as well as the toy, charger, warranty and guarantee information and a satiny storage bag inside.
Now. Let’s talk about the Billy itself, it’s shape and how it feels in use, hmm?
In a word… it’s great!
The flare at the base between shaft and handle is not very large and may not keep you totally safe if you sat on the Billy or something but it’s certainly enough to alert you, in use, that you’re at the end of the insertable shaft and shouldn’t insert any further.
I’ve found the Billy works best when driven by someone else. It’s small and short and kind of hard to insert and thrust yourself unless you’re pretty flexible. I am fluffy and have not done yoga in over a year so I am not flexible. The Billy feels really good, however, when my parter controls it, particularly when used for double penetration during vaginal sex.
The vibrations can be minutely controlled so you can have just a small rumble or a fast buzz depending upon what you like. I’ve found that I like less intense vibrations anally or it’s distracting so this is a nice option. Too many vibes start out at a low speed that is not very low! The patterns also feel amazing during use and are very stimulating even thru the rectal-vaginal wall – whether to g-spot or a partner’s penis if you’re doing DP play.
The tapered tip makes insertion a breeze, the slim girth means it should be easily used by any level of player and the short length means you’re not poking up too deep. It is very firm, though, so use caution – you could bruise yourself little if you poke off to the side or something.
The Billy can also be used for vaginal play, of course, or for clit stimulation. It can be used, really, anywhere a vibrator feels good. It’s rounded yet pointed tip means you can get pinpoint stimulation or broad stimulation thru the shaft. It’s really very all purpose and an excellent choice for couples that like to share. The fact that you can sanitize it since it’s non porous silicone and plastic makes it truly ideal.
Do remember to use lube. You should at all times for anal play, anyhow, to prevent minute tears of the anus that can be dangerous and painful but the Billy is matte silicone and has a bit of drag which lube will reduce. The good thing about matte, draggy silicone is that it feels a bit more like skin on skin, which many prefer to a slick, glossy feel.
The only issue I have with the Billy – and, really, all LELO toys – is the buttons being easy to hit while in use. The handle can get slippery and you have to hold it precisely in order to keep your fingers from bumping - or your hand from covering and pressing – the control pad. A minor issue, though, since once you get used to it and figure out how best to hold it for your use, you’re pretty much good to go.
