Let’s talk about lube!

So between the perimenopause issues and the thyroid issues and my age and my girly bits issues, Taylor and I had to face up to the fact, about a year ago, that we need to use lube.

How depressing.

It’s almost like a failure when, no matter how excited you feel and how aroused you are, your body just won’t co-operate.  It made him feel pretty crappy for awhile cuz it never seemed like I was as "into" things as I used to be and it made me feel crappy because I was, I just couldn’t make my body respond right!

I think, at this point, we’ve given up feeling crappy and we’ve moved on to resignation.  Lube is a fact of life now and that’s that.

As you can imagine, we tried a ton of them.  We started out with KY.  It’s cheap and I had a drawer full of it from when I worked in the hospital.  It sucks.  I really can’t say anything else other than it’s useless unless it’s all you have and even then, I prefer spit.  Seriously.  It’s tacky and sticky and it lasts all of twelve point two seconds.  Best for anal thermometers and enemas and not at all useful for sex.  And butt sex?  Forget it.  Again, I’d take spit over KY.  Even the warming one we tried was pretty much junk.  I couldn’t feel any warming at all and it was even stickier than regular KY.

So we moved on to Wet.  The stuff we got was a gel.  It felt…  just like a gel.  Hair gel or ultrasound gel.  Not at all natural or slick, just wet, goopy and sticky.  Like KY, it dried out too fast and left me feeling vaguely messy.

On to Climax H2O, which I’d heard good things about.  And it was ok.  Better than the Wet or KY or spit.  But I"m starting to think that water based lubes just aren’t my thing.  The glycerin in them makes anal sex burn a little (at least that’s all I can figure out) and I hate the sweet taste and they just don’t last very long.

And then we tried Liquid Silk.  I’m still not a huge fan of water based lubes (as opposed to silicone, which I"ll talk about another time) but Liquid Silk was really, really a HUGE step above the others I’d tried.  First of all, it has no glycerine in it.  I love that.  Glycerin is sugar.  Glycerin can cause yeast infections and all other sorts of nastiness.  And glycerin stings my ass!

Liquid Silk doesn’t sting.  It doesn’t give you infections.  In fact, the company claims it’s Bio-Static – which means it actually prevents infections and fungus!

Liquid Silk is also far superior in consistency.  It’s slick and slippery without that cheap, gel like feel.  It feels as close to natural as I’ve ever come with a water based lube.  And it lasts.  And lasts.  And doesn’t leave me feeling at all sticky and gummed up when we’re done, as if I’d just been fucking a lollipop like other lubes tend to.

I am absolutely in love.  I finally found a lube I could use with any toy, with condoms, during vaginal and anal sex and it actually works well.

I still like silicone the best for sex.  But for all purpose use and easy clean up, Liquid Silk has become my go to lube.  Even my doctor recommends it.  And the pump top bottle is awesome.

And the best thing?  When lube actually works well and you don’t have to keep reapplying it?  Your body gets the idea and reacts and produces it’s own lube.

And then you feel very happy and not at all like a wetness failure.

I’m still not gooing up my panties just thinking about sucking dick or getting whacked with a flogger like I used to but, with a little good lube I do eventually get wet enough to have wet thighs and a damp spot on the sheet underneath me

That just didn’t happen with KY.

Unless Taylor missed and squirted it all over the sheets.  ;O
