I have a product to review this week that I really like. The main ingredient in it is coconut oil, which makes it great for in the bath. A little dollop melts in the bathwater for a great smelling bath that leaves you soft as a baby’s bottom.
I felt like I was wasting a ton of the product, though, so I improvised.

I took a half cup of organic coconut oil and melted it to a liquid state. (It melts at 76 degrees and up so you don’t have to get it smoky hot, just warm) I had no essential oils to add, though, so I added… get this… a quarter of a packet of splenda vanilla coffee sweetener.

Stirred it up, let it solidify and now I have this heavenly scented bath oil and body rub that tastes AND smells like vanilla and is lightly sweet on the skin.

Smart, eh?

(cheap, actually, since I didn’t want to use up the expensive and fabulous product too fast. Lol. Watch for the review of that tomorrow or Wednesday!)

  1. Oooo I like this idea. I started making my own salt scrub last year when I couldn’t afford to buy the $24 jar of stuff I usually get. I mix organic sweet almond oil (or plain ole organic olive oil if I’m feeling cheap) mixed with organic sea salt which is less than two dollars for a large container. I like the fine grain vs. the large grain. Add some drops of your favorite essential oil (I love rosemary or lavendar, depending on if I want to wake up or calm down)…or sweetener in your case :) I may have to try mixing in some coconut oil next time. I’m never paying full price for salt scrub again.

  2. The sweetener makes it nifty for licking. Lol. It smells good in the bath and then, afterward, you rub more on strategic spots and you taste as good as you smell. :)

I do homemade scrubs, too. I usually use sesame oil, though. SOooooo much more economical and I can make all the scents I want. Especially since my mom makes candles so she always has cosmetic grade scented oils at home and is willing to give me a few drops. :)
