Someone got insulted when I said “unowned slave” is an oxymoron. (quick edit there cuz I forgot the “un” when I posted in the wee hours of the morning)
And I wonder why people don’t define things the way I do?
It’s getting to be quite obvious it’s because they have no grasp of the English language.
I’ll be the first to admit I occasionally use the wrong word, quite often screw up my punctuation and fairly frequently use poor grammar.
But, yanno…
If you don’t know what a word means?
Look it up.
In fact, try this little thing I use. It’s called Word Web. It’s a small application that sits in your system tray, all set to be clicked and instantly open when you need to know what a word means. It takes next to no resources and you have a thesaurus and dictionary at your fingertips without opening an entire new web page or searching for an actual book.
Very handy, let me tell you.

Uhm…wouldn’t ‘owned slave’ be redundant and ‘unowned slaved’ be an oxymoron?
Aside from that, I think I see your point that it’s tough to be a ‘slave’ if you aren’t engaged in active slavery. That’s not a level I’m ever headed for, but I can see looking at it that way.

First, thanks for the word web…i’d never seen it before. You’re post reminded me of the scene from “Princess Bride” where the Giant says to the Sicillian “I don’t think that word means what you think it means”
