“It is not wealth one asks for, but just enough to preserve one’s dignity, to work unhampered, to be generous, frank and independent.” ~ W. Somerset Maugham , ‘Of Human Bondage’, 1915
I think I’ve used this quote before but I reread it today and it sure did hit home. Nothing but troubles lately – car problems, mostly. Seems every week something goes wrong on Taylor’s car and we need to put $75 or $100 or more into it. So even though our income has jumped hugely in comparison to before we can’t seem to get “comfortable”. I’m still frantically budgeting and trying to pull cash out of my ass. Lol.
We did manage to get the kid the bike he’s been wanting for so long today, though. He’s been saving and saving and saving and we finally figured he’d saved enough and tossed some money in the pot, picked up the bike and surprised the hell out of him. It’s so nice to see him that happy. He and Taylor spent a couple hours in the basement putting the bike together all perfectly and whatnot. :)
I want to be able to do that for him more. Maybe this car will stop having issues soon – I mean, it’ll have all new friggin’ parts eventually! Lol. Then we’ll have that little extra cushion that allows all of us to be comfortable – to have “just enough”.

I drink a lot of coffee, ride a motorcycle, have an 18 year old son and a decade long relationship that began in a chat room.
